The vehicle health light
What the vehicle health light on the ELD tab means. It is maintenance information from the engine, not an ELD malfunction.
When your carrier uses it and the ELD can read the engine's fault codes, the ELD tab shows a Vehicle health card. It repeats the warning lamps the engine reports:
| Light | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Red: Stop lamp on | The engine reports a serious problem. | Stop safely as soon as you can and contact your fleet. |
| Amber: Warning lamp on | The engine reports a problem that needs a repair. | Keep driving if it is safe, and report it to your fleet or maintenance. |
| Codes stored, no warning lamp | Codes are stored, but no lamp is on. | Nothing right now. Your fleet sees them. |
Tap the card to see the codes (for example P0420 or SPN 110 FMI 0). Your fleet sees the same codes in the portal and may create a repair work order.
It is not an ELD malfunction
- The vehicle health light is maintenance information about the truck.
- It is not an ELD malfunction or data diagnostic. It does not change your logs or your hours of service, and you do not need paper logs because of it.
- It is not shown on the roadside inspection screens.
ELD malfunctions look different: a red banner at the top of every screen with a code and use paper logs. See Malfunctions and data diagnostics.
Report problems to your fleet
- Always report warning lamps and anything wrong with the truck to your fleet, even if the app shows nothing.
- Write defects on your inspection report. See Vehicle inspections (DVIR).
- Follow your company's rules and the vehicle manufacturer's instructions about driving with a warning lamp on.
