The PT30 won't connect
Fix Bluetooth, permission, power and pairing problems when the driver app can't find or connect to the PT30.
Work through these checks in order. Most connection problems are Bluetooth or permissions on the phone, or a PT30 that has no power.
Check the message on the ELD tab
Open the ELD tab. The app tells you what is wrong:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Bluetooth is off. Turn it on to connect to the ELD. | Tap Turn on, or turn Bluetooth on in the phone's quick settings. |
| Bluetooth permission is needed to find and connect to the ELD. | Tap Grant and allow Nearby devices. |
| Bluetooth permission was denied. Allow "Nearby devices" in the app settings to connect to the ELD. | Tap Open settings, open Permissions and allow Nearby devices. |
| This phone does not support Bluetooth Low Energy. | Use another phone or tablet. The PT30 needs Bluetooth Low Energy. |
| Device not in range — make sure it's plugged in and the truck is on. | See Power and range. |
| Couldn't connect to the ELD. Check it is plugged in and Bluetooth is on, then try again. | Check power and range, then try again. If it keeps failing, see Reset the connection. |
| Another ELD is connected. Disconnect it on the Device tab first. | You are still connected to another PT30. Tap Disconnect on the ELD tab, then scan again. |
You can see all the app's permissions in More > Settings > Permissions (Bluetooth scan, Bluetooth connect, Location (phone GPS), Notifications). Any that show Not allowed can be fixed with Allow access or App settings.
Power and range
- The PT30 must be plugged firmly into the truck's diagnostic port. It powers up with the engine, so start the engine.
- Keep the phone in the cab, close to the PT30.
- If the PT30 was recently moved from another truck, unplug it, wait a few seconds and plug it back in.
Scanning problems
- Camera access is turned off: the scan screen says so. Allow the camera in Settings, or use Can't scan? Find device manually below the camera.
- Not a supported ELD QR code: you scanned another code. Scan the QR sticker on the PT30.
- The PT30 is not in the list when you search manually: Pacific Track devices show as PT30_ plus the last 4 characters of the code on the sticker. Make sure the engine is running and you are close to it, then tap Scan again.
Wrong truck warnings
If the app says Different vehicle, the PT30 is linked in the portal to another unit. If you are driving that unit, tap Change vehicle. Otherwise ask your carrier to check the device link. See Binding a PT30 to a vehicle.
Reset the connection
- On the ELD tab, tap Disconnect (if connected), then Forget.
- Turn Bluetooth off and on again.
- Close the app fully and open it again.
- Scan the QR sticker again.
If it still fails, restart the phone with the engine running and try once more.
It connects, then drops
- Do not restrict EZ Logs in the phone's battery settings. If background logging is unavailable, the app shows a message on the ELD tab; keep the app open and grant the Bluetooth, location and notification permissions.
- The app reconnects on its own when the PT30 is back in range. Events recorded while disconnected are fetched automatically.
Important: if the ELD stays disconnected while you drive, the app may record a data diagnostic and, if it continues, a malfunction. Follow the steps the app shows and see ELD malfunctions. Tell your carrier.
For admins
- Check Drivers & fleet > ELD devices: is the PT30 linked to the right vehicle, and when was it Last seen?
- A device Not seen in 24 h while the truck is running points to a power or Bluetooth problem in that truck.
- If a PT30 is faulty, replace it and unassign the old one so its records are not attributed to the wrong vehicle.
