Reviewing unidentified driving
Claim driving that was yours or decline driving that wasn't, when the ELD recorded movement with no driver signed in.
Unidentified driving is driving the ELD recorded on a truck while no driver was signed in. The ELD rule requires the app to show it to the next driver who signs in to that truck, so the driver can claim it if it was theirs (49 CFR 395.32).
When you are asked
- When you sign in, if there is unidentified driving for your truck, the app opens Unidentified driving automatically.
- Any time later, from More > Edits & unidentified driving. The row shows how many items are waiting for you.
The list includes records from this phone and, when you are online, the records your carrier's account holds for the truck.
Claim or decline
The screen explains: "Driving recorded on this vehicle while no driver was logged in. Claim the records that were yours; decline the rest."
For each Unidentified record:
- Check the time and location.
- Tap Claim if you drove the truck at that time. The record moves to your log, marked as assumed from the unidentified driver profile.
- Tap Decline if it wasn't you. You can type a Reason (optional), then tap Confirm. The record stays unidentified for your carrier to review.
If every record is yours, tap Claim all.
Decisions are saved on the phone and sent when online. After you claim driving on a day you already certified, re-certify that day (see Certifying your logs).
Important: only claim driving you actually did. Claimed time counts against your hours-of-service clocks.
Unidentified driving diagnostic
If there is more than 30 minutes of unidentified driving in 24 hours, the app shows the Unidentified driving records data diagnostic (code 5). It clears automatically when the unidentified driving in the last 8 days drops to 15 minutes or less, for example after it is claimed or assigned by your carrier. You can keep driving with this diagnostic. See Malfunctions and data diagnostics.
Team driving
When a co-driver signs in, they are asked to review unidentified driving with their own login. Their claims go to their own log. See Team driving.
How to avoid unidentified driving
- Sign in and connect the ELD before the truck moves.
- Don't sign out while someone is about to move the truck.
- If someone else moves the truck (a mechanic, a yard driver), tell your carrier so they can assign the time.
