Adding drivers and giving them their app login
Create a driver account with an ELD username and initial password, assign vehicles, and reset a driver's password when needed.
Each driver needs their own EZ Logs account. Drivers sign in to the app with their ELD username (or email) and password. Never let drivers share a login (49 CFR 395.22(e)).
Add a driver
- Open Drivers & fleet > Drivers.
- Select Add driver. The dialog creates the driver and their ELD login.
- Fill in:
- First name and Last name.
- Email.
- ELD username: used to log in to the ELD. It must be unique and cannot be changed later.
- Initial password: at least 10 characters.
- Require change at next login: leave it on so the driver chooses their own password the first time they sign in. Drivers' credentials should be known only to them.
- Driver's licence number and Licence state / province. Spaces and dashes are removed. Each licence number and state can belong to only one driver.
- Optional sections:
- ELD exemption: tick Exempt from using an ELD only for a driver who is exempt, and describe the Exemption reason (for example short-haul 395.1(e)(1)). It is shown at inspections.
- Assigned vehicles: the vehicles the driver can select in the ELD app. A driver with no assigned vehicles sees "No vehicles assigned to this driver" after signing in.
- Special driving categories: leave Personal conveyance and Yard move on the carrier setting unless this driver needs an exception (Allowed for this driver or Not allowed for this driver).
- Select Create driver.
Give the driver their login
Share the ELD username and Initial password with the driver over a secure channel (in person or by phone). Then send them the app link: see Installing the driver app.
At their first sign-in the app asks the driver to enter the temporary password and choose a new one. See Signing in and out of the driver app.
Note: drivers can also sign in to the portal at https://portal.ezlogs.co with the same login to review their logs, certifications and edit requests.
Reset a driver's password
In the driver's row, use the key button (Set password) or the small arrow next to it:
- Set password: type a new password for the driver. They are signed out of the ELD app; share the new password with them securely.
- Arrow menu > Issue temporary password: use this when you cannot agree a password with the driver in person. The temporary password is shown once; copy it before you close the dialog. The driver must change it at their next sign-in.
The app keeps logging after a password reset; the driver signs in again to resume syncing. Drivers who have an email address can also reset their own password with Forgot password?.
Edit or deactivate a driver
- Edit: change names, licence, exemption, assigned vehicles and special driving categories. The ELD username cannot be changed.
- Deactivate: the driver can no longer log in to the ELD or the driver app. Their records are retained. Switch on Show deactivated to find them and Reactivate them later.
The driver list
The list shows each driver's duty Status, Vehicle, Location, hours remaining (Drive left, Shift left, Cycle left), Last sync and Violations, refreshed every 30 seconds. Select Open log to see today's log.
