Sync issues
How the app stores logs on the phone and syncs them, what each sync status means, and what to do when records are not uploading.
EZ Logs is offline-first. Every record is saved on the phone the moment it is made, then sent to EZ Logs when there is a connection. You can keep logging with no signal; nothing is lost.
Sync status
The status bar at the top of the app shows where your data stands:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Synced | All data synced · nothing waiting to upload |
| Syncing | Sending your logs to EZ Logs. |
| Waiting to sync | Your logs are saved on this phone and will be sent automatically. |
| Offline · saved | No connection. Your logs are saved and will be sent when the phone is back online. |
| Sign in to sync | You are signed out (for example after a password reset). Logging continues; sign in to upload. |
| Needs attention | EZ Logs did not accept one or more items. Your carrier can fix this from the portal. |
The More tab also shows the sync state. Tap Sync now to send right away.
How syncing works
- The app syncs about once a minute, and right away after you change duty status or make an entry.
- If a sync fails because of the network, the app retries automatically, waiting longer between tries (up to about 10 minutes).
- The app also downloads changes from EZ Logs: edit requests from your carrier, unidentified driving on your truck and records that need re-certifying.
- When you sign in on a new phone, the app downloads your last 15 days of records so your hours-of-service clocks are right.
Records are not uploading
- Check that the phone has a data connection (mobile data or Wi-Fi). Open a web page to test.
- Tap Sync now on the More tab.
- If the status says Sign in to sync, sign in again. If your carrier reset your password, use the new or temporary password.
- If you chose Continue offline (sync stays paused) at a password change, set your new password once you are online.
- If it says Needs attention, tell your carrier. Those items stay on the phone; they are not lost.
Signing out with records still waiting
If records have not been uploaded yet, the app warns you (... records haven't been uploaded yet.) and asks you to Connect to the internet before signing out. Wait for Uploading your logs before signing out… to finish. If you must, tap Sign out anyway: the waiting records stay on the phone and upload in the background under your account. If that is not possible, they upload the next time you sign in on this phone.
Important: do not uninstall the app or clear its data while records are waiting to upload. Those records exist only on the phone until they are synced.
For admins
- Drivers & fleet > Drivers shows each driver's Last sync. A driver with an old last sync is probably offline or signed out.
- Drivers & fleet > ELD devices shows when each PT30 was Last seen.
- Edits that would shorten automatically recorded driving are refused by the server and are not part of the log. See Logs and edits.
