Roadside inspection

Show your logs to an officer on the inspection screen and send your records to FMCSA by web service or email.

For drivers Español

During a roadside inspection the officer can review your logs on the phone screen, and you can send your records to FMCSA so the officer can review them on their own system (49 CFR 395.24(d)). Keep the data transfer instruction sheet in the truck.

Note: the inspection screen is always shown in English, whatever language the app is set to, because the officer reads it. The rest of the app returns to your language when you leave it.

Open the inspection screen

  1. Stop the truck.
  2. Open More > Roadside inspection.

The screen shows Roadside inspection - Officer view · status changes locked. Nothing can be edited on this screen, so you can hand the phone to the officer.

What the officer sees

  • A summary with driver, carrier, USDOT number, unit and VIN, cycle and time zone.
  • A row of day buttons: Today and each of the previous 7 days. Tap a day to show it.
  • For the selected day:
    • the Inspection header (record date, 24-hour period start, time zone, carrier, driver and license, co-driver, ELD registration ID and identifier, truck and trailer IDs, shipping document, odometer and engine hours, current location, unidentified driving, malfunction and diagnostic indicators);
    • the graph grid with totals per duty status;
    • the Events list with time, event, origin, status, location, miles, engine hours and annotation;
    • Unidentified driving records for that day.
  • The Malfunction and Diagnostic indicators, showing any active codes.

When you drive as a team, the officer can choose which driver to inspect.

Send your records to FMCSA

When the officer asks for a data transfer:

  1. Scroll to Send records.
  2. Type the Output file comment (from the officer), if the officer gives you one.
  3. Choose the method the officer asks for: Web service or Email.
  4. Tap Send to FMCSA.
  5. The app shows Sent with the file name and the result of the transfer. Tell the officer it has been sent.

Sending needs an internet connection and you must be signed in. The file covers the current day and the previous 7 days.

Share the file

Share file creates the ELD output file on the phone and opens the phone's share menu, so you can send it another way (for example by email from your phone) if the officer asks for it.

What if

  • No signal or the transfer fails: show the logs on the inspection screen instead. The display works offline.
  • "Signed out: sign in again to send to FMCSA.": sign in again, then send. The display and the share file still work.
  • "Your driver and carrier profile is not loaded yet.": connect to the internet once so the app can download your profile, then try again.
  • The ELD has a malfunction: show the inspection screen and your paper logs, and tell the officer. See Malfunctions and data diagnostics.
