Binding a PT30 to a vehicle
How each PT30 is linked to the truck it is installed in, how the link is made automatically, and what the app does when the ELD and truck don't match.
Every PT30 should be linked to the one truck it is installed in. EZ Logs uses the link to put the right unit number and VIN on the records from that device, to connect drivers to the right ELD automatically, and to warn a driver who connects to the wrong one. A device pairs with one vehicle at a time.
How devices appear in the portal
You don't add PT30s by hand. A PT30 registers automatically the first time a driver connects to it and the app syncs. It then appears in Drivers & fleet > ELD devices with its Serial, Adapter, BLE address, Linked vehicle, Last seen, Firmware and Status (Not seen in 24 h or Never seen if it has not synced recently).
Automatic linking
When a driver connects to a PT30 that is not linked to any vehicle yet, and the truck they signed in to has no ELD linked, EZ Logs links the PT30 to that truck at the next sync. In most fleets this means you only need to check the links, not create them.
A PT30 that is already linked is never moved to another truck automatically, and a truck never gets a second device automatically. Those cases are left for you to resolve in the portal.
Link or change a device in the portal
For admins, on Drivers & fleet > ELD devices:
- Find the device by serial. Select Assign (or Change vehicle if it is already linked).
- Choose the Vehicle and select Assign device. Records from this device are attributed to the selected vehicle (unit number and VIN).
- If the unit already has another device, the dialog says so. If that adapter was removed from the truck, unassign it too so records are not attributed to the wrong vehicle.
To take a PT30 out of a truck, select Unassign on its row. The Vehicles page shows each unit's ELD device.
BLE address
The BLE address lets the app tell which truck a scanned ELD belongs to. The app normally reports it on its own. To set it yourself, select Set address (or Edit address) and enter 12 hex digits (for example AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF), or paste the URL from the QR sticker. Select Save address.
Warnings in the app
For drivers, the app checks the link when you connect:
- Different vehicle: "This ELD belongs to unit ... You're logged in to unit ... Connect anyway?" If you are driving the other unit, tap Change vehicle and pick the right truck. Tap Connect anyway only if you are sure; your carrier is told. Cancel stops the connection.
- VIN mismatch: after connecting, if the PT30 reports a different VIN than the one on file for your truck, the app warns you. Tap Disconnect if you are in the wrong truck, or Continue anyway if you are sure.
When a driver connects anyway, the portal shows it under Recent driver overrides on the Vehicles page (ELD of another vehicle or VIN mismatch). Check the device link and the vehicle's VIN when you see one.
Note: a wrong VIN on the vehicle record also causes VIN warnings. Fix it under Drivers & fleet > Vehicles. See Adding vehicles.
