Adding vehicles

Add each truck with its unit number and VIN, understand vehicle seats, and deactivate trucks that leave service.

For admins

Every commercial motor vehicle (power unit) your drivers log in needs a vehicle record. The unit number and VIN appear on the driver's records of duty status.

Add a vehicle

  1. Open Drivers & fleet > Vehicles.
  2. Select Add vehicle.
  3. Fill in:
    • Unit number: the CMV power unit number, up to 10 characters.
    • VIN: 17 characters; the 9th is a check digit, so a mistyped VIN is refused. Leave it blank if you don't know it yet.
    • Plate number and Plate state / province (optional).
    • Tags (optional): labels such as reefer or linehaul. Press Enter to add each one. Maintenance programs can target vehicles by tag.
  4. Select Add vehicle. You see "Unit ... added".

Note: enter the VIN as soon as you can. The driver app compares it with the VIN the PT30 reads from the truck and warns the driver if they don't match. See Binding a PT30 to a vehicle.

The vehicle list

The list shows each unit's Plate, Assigned driver, ELD device and Status (Active or Inactive). Use Search unit, VIN, plate or tag to filter, and switch on Show inactive to see retired units.

Next to the list, Recent driver overrides shows drivers who connected to an ELD even though the app warned that it belongs to another vehicle or reports a different VIN. It is hidden when there are none.

Vehicle seats

Each active vehicle uses one licensed seat of your subscription. If all seats are in use, adding or reactivating a vehicle shows All licensed vehicle seats are in use. To continue, deactivate a vehicle that is no longer in service, or ask us to add seats to your subscription. See Billing and your trial.

Edit, deactivate or reactivate

Use the buttons at the end of a vehicle's row:

  • Edit: change the unit number, VIN, plate or tags, then select Save changes.
  • Deactivate: retire a truck that left the fleet. Its records are kept and it frees a seat.
  • Reactivate: bring an inactive truck back (needs a free seat).
