Driver logs and edit requests
Review each driver's records of duty status, propose corrections the driver must accept, and track every edit request in the portal.
What these pages are for
The Driver logs page shows each driver's records of duty status (RODS) one 24-hour period at a time: the graph grid, every ELD record, the day totals, certification and any malfunctions. From a log you can propose a correction to a record. The Edit requests page lists every correction you proposed and what the driver decided.
Both pages are under the Compliance icon in the left rail, in the Records group:
- Driver logs
- Edit requests
Logs are always available. They are a core ELD function and cannot be switched off.
Who can do what
- Owner and Carrier admin: view logs, propose edits, cancel pending requests and generate output files.
- Support (read-only): views logs and edit requests. The Request edit button is hidden and a note explains why.
- While the portal is read-only for your company (for example a subscription problem, see Billing and trial), nobody can propose edits.
Open a driver's log
- Go to Compliance > Driver logs.
- Under Open a log, choose the Driver and the Log date (home terminal), then select Open log.
- Or use the driver list below: select the driver's name or Today to open today's log, or the 8-day view (or 7-day view) button to see several days at once.
Log days follow your home terminal time zone and the day start time set in Carrier settings. The page header shows both.
On the log page, use the Driver selector, the date field, Today, and the arrows on the day strip to move between drivers and days. The day strip shows the certification state of each day. Switch between Day and the multi-day view with the toggle in the header.
Read a log day
The day view has these parts:
- Graph grid: the duty status line for the 24-hour period, drawn by the server's hours-of-service engine. Select a segment to highlight its record. Hatched areas have no duty status record and are counted as Off Duty; a warning tells you how long. For a team, extra lanes under the grid show when each driver was driving.
- Events: every ELD record of the day with Time (and sequence ID), Event / status, Location, Odometer (mi), Engine hrs and Record status / origin. Inactive records are struck through.
- Edit requests: open proposals for this driver.
- Certification: Certified, Not certified, Needs recertification (records changed after the driver certified), or In progress for today.
- Day totals for each duty status.
- Malfunctions and diagnostics recorded on the day.
Record origin tells you who created a record: Auto (recorded by the ELD), Driver, Edited by carrier, or Assumed (taken from the unidentified driver profile).
If the ELD app ever tried to change automatically recorded driving, the server refused it and the page shows a rejected uploads warning with the details. The graph is not changed.
Edit history
Select the history icon on a record (or Edit history for a status carried over from an earlier day) to see every version of the record, oldest first. ELD records are never deleted; a change creates a new version and the old one becomes inactive.
Propose an edit
You cannot change a driver's log directly. You propose a change and the driver accepts or rejects it in the ELD app (49 CFR 395.30).
- Open the driver's log for the day.
- In Events, select the record (an active duty status, intermediate log or special driving category record), then select Request edit. You can also use the pencil icon on the row.
- In Propose an edit, change what is needed:
- Duty status (or Special driving category for personal conveyance / yard move records)
- Date (home terminal) and Time (24-hour)
- Location description (manual, optional), 5 to 60 characters
- Trailer numbers (comma separated), up to 10
- Shipping document number
- Enter the Annotation (required), 4 to 60 characters, explaining why the change is needed.
- Select Send edit request.
The proposal shows in the events table as Pending driver review (record status "Inactive – change requested") and nothing changes on the graph until the driver accepts it.
Important: Automatically recorded driving time is protected. Its duty status and time cannot be changed or shortened (49 CFR 395.30(c)(2)). You can still propose a location, trailer or shipping document correction. Driving recorded with no driver signed in is handled on Unidentified driving.
When the driver accepts, the new record becomes active, the original stays in the edit history, and a day the driver had already certified shows Needs recertification until the driver certifies it again.
Track and cancel edit requests
- Go to Compliance > Edit requests.
- Pick a tab: Pending, Accepted, Rejected by driver or Cancelled. Use the Driver filter to narrow the list.
- Each card compares the Original record with the proposed one and shows the annotation and outcome. Unidentified driving assignments are listed here too.
- To withdraw a pending proposal, select Cancel request, optionally enter a Reason (optional), and confirm with Cancel request.
A cancelled request disappears from the driver's ELD and the driver's records stay as they were. This cannot be undone, but you can propose a new edit later. Cancelled requests show as Withdrawn by carrier, not as rejected by the driver.
Generate an ELD output file
Owners and carrier admins can create the FMCSA ELD output file for a driver from the log page:
- Open the driver's log and select Output file.
- Choose the log dates and select Generate and download.
- If a safety official asked for it, you can then select Send to FMCSA by Web service or Email, with the routing code the official gave you.
Transfers are listed on Compliance > FMCSA transfers. Drivers send their own records at the roadside from the app; see Data transfer.
